Henry G. Steinbrenner Stadium contains a varsity game oval for football, men's lacrosse, and men's and women's soccer. The oval is surrounded by a 400-meter eight-lane running track. The mondo-surface track featured the first steeplechase in New England and was judged one of the nation's finest track and field facilities upon opening in 2001.

Steinbrenner Stadium was dedicated in 1978 by New York Yankees' owner George Steinbrenner and his two sisters. The gift was made in honor of their father, who won the national championship in the 220-yard hurdles as an MIT undergraduate.
