MIT Heavyweights Drop Army In Spring Opener
April 1, 2007
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MITs men's heavyweight crew opened its first spring season under new head coach Tony Kilbridge with a decisive, open-water win over the U.S. Military Academy. The Engineers led Sunday's race from the start, and held off a determined push by the Army Black Knights at the 1000 meter mark to finish 3.7 seconds ahead. Said coach Kilbridge following the victory, "Considering that we have been on the water for only a week, I thought the guys rowed pretty well. Our stroke rate was low, and we will have to find a faster rhythm and some more speed if we are going to be successful against our EARC opponents." MIT's freshman heavies weren't as fortunate in their season debut. The Engineers raced hard but ended up the losing side of its duel with Army, finishing four seconds behind the Black Knights. |
