Igor Kopylov Earns Academic All-America Accolades

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Igor Kopylov capped off his outstanding fencing career after being voted to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday. The lone fencer among 45 athletes on the College Division national team, Kopylov became the first male fencer in Institute history to earn a spot on the First Team. Igor Kopylov Collects Cointe Award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second year in a row senior Igor Kopylov was the lone Division III recipient of the Georges L. Cointe Award, which is given to a fencer who excels in high-level competition with excellence in sportsmanship. He is MIT's third consecutive winner of this award and fourth overall as Trevor Chang '07 was honored during his senior campaign and Guy Pommares was chosen in 1970. Read More

MIT Collects NFC Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) recently announced its All-Conference Team as MIT received a trio Second-Team selections. With a record of 22-8 senior Igor Kopylov was tabbed to the All-Conference Sabre Second Team, earning the fourth honor of his career which tied the Institute mark set by Spencer Sugimoto last season.
