Golf Finds Some Range at ECAC Championship
Oct. 6, 2008
FARMINGTON, Conn. - Continuing to show steady improvement, the MIT golf team recorded one of its best second round team scores in recent memory as the Engineers finished 16th out of 17 teams at the ECAC Division III New England Championship held at Trinity College this past weekend. Amid rainy, damp, and cold conditions, Nick Swenson registered the team's best score with a second round total of four-over par 74 as the Engineers finished at 333, nine points better than their opening tally of 341. Ted Keith and Jason Rome followed with 79's, the latter's occurring in the first round, and Bryn Waldwick shot a career-low 86 while leading the squad with three birdies throughout the two-day event. Overall, Swenson scored a 157, while Keith, Rome, and Waldwick carded 162, 173, and 182, respectively. Also competing was John Kucharzyk, who earned a spot in the lineup for the second consecutive week. "The team continues to improve each week," said MIT head coach Marty Burke. "Our second-round team score was one of the program's best in a long time. [We go] into next week's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship on a high note." Trinity won the event with a score of 582. Rounding out the top five were Nichols College, Johnson and Wales University, Endicott College, and Western New England College. |
