Men's Gymnastics Finishes Third in Tri-Meet at Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - MIT's men's gymnastics team competed in a tri-meet on Saturday evening at Temple University's McGonigle Hall, finishing third behind Division III foe Springfield College (329.600) and Division I host Temple (339.450) with a team score of 311.800. The Engineers dropped to 0-3 on the season with the pair of losses. Joshua Coblenz was the Cardinal and Gray's top all-around finisher for the third time in three meets this campaign, as the Springfield, Va., native finished third with an overall score of 79.400. He trailed only Temple's Sterling Kramer (85.700) and Springfield's Josh Fox (80.500). The senior earned MIT's highest mark on the parallel bars with a 13.000, while he also tied for the Engineers' best score on the rings with junior Boris Rasin (14.100). Rasin also had Tech's highest tally on the floor exercise, as he earned a 14.050, while freshman Jesse Ashcraft-Johnson was MIT's best on the pommel horse with a mark of 12.600. Meanwhile, Ashcraft-Johnson's fellow rookie Jake Shapiro's 14.050 on the vault was tops amongst MIT gymnasts and junior Tom Caldwell's tally of 13.400 on the high bar was another Engineer-high. Shapiro and Rasin tied for fourth in the all-around with a final mark of 77.450, while Caldwell placed sixth with a score of 76.600. The Engineers will return to the gym on Saturday, Feb. 23, when they will host The College of William and Mary at 2:00 p.m. in the duPont Gymnasium. |
