MIT Overpowered by Visiting Temple in Dual Meet
Feb. 18, 2007
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT's men's gymnastics squad picked up team victories in both the still rings and the parallel bars en route to its highest overall score of the season in a dual meet yesterday, but it wasn't enough to overcome No. 12 ranked Temple University, which won, 187.750-179.600. The competition served as the first home meet of the season for the Cardinal and Gray. With the loss, Tech dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the Owls improved to 1-1 with the victory. As he has been in every competition thus far this season, sophomore Boris Rasin was MIT's highest individual all-around performer, netting a 46.150. His 9.050 on the still rings and 8.000 on the parallel bars were his most impressive outings and contributed greatly to Tech's team wins in those events. Senior Brad Sutton was consistent in earning a 45.100 all-around score, while junior teammate Joshua Coblenz wasn't far behind with a 44.75. Junior Matthew Heine also put forth a few strong scores, hitting routines in the floor exercise (8.100), still rings (8.300) and parallel bars (8.050). MIT will return to duPont Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 24, when it will host Springfield College and the University of Vermont in a tri-meet at 1:00 p.m. Temple will continue its east coast road trip when it travels to take on Springfield in a dual meet at 1:00 p.m. today. |
