Boris Rasin was MIT's top performer in five out of seven events
 
 
Engineers Capture Third in Tri-Meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In its final head-to-head competition of the season, the MIT men's gymnastics team posted a season-high score of 325.300 but fell to host Springfield College (338.050) and the U.S. Military Academy (336.400) on Sunday. The Engineers dropped to 0-6 on the season following the pair of losses.

MIT placed 2-4-5-6 in the all-around as it was led by Boris Rasin's total of 82.850. Joshua Coblenz came in next at 81.900, followed by Jake Shapiro (79.750) and Tom Caldwell (77.500).

In the still rings, Rasin finished second overall with a score of 14.400. Coblenz edged out Shapiro to claim third place by a margin of 0.15 points (14.150-14.100). Caldwell's mark of 13.200 raised the team score to 55.850 which tied Army for the top spot in the event.

The Engineers amassed a mark of 55.600 on the vault as Coblenz and Shapiro both posted identical scores of 14.150. Three-tenths of a point separated the other members of the contingent, which was formed by Rasin (13.800), Caldwell (13.500), and Matthew Heine (13.200).

On the floor exercise, Rasin led the way with a mark of 13.700. Shapiro claimed second for MIT with a 13.550, which helped him inch ahead Heine (13.500) and Coblenz (13.450). Caldwell and Jacob Sharpe notched scores of 12.950 and 12.750 as the Engineers finished with a total of 54.200.

Coblenz's tally of 13.800 on the parallel bars earned him a fourth-place finish and netted a team total 53.800. Rasin registered the next best mark at 13.500, followed closely by Heine (13.450), Shapiro (13.050), and Caldwell (12.500).

The high bar featured very tight scoring for the Cardinal and Gray as its first and last competitors were separated by one point. Rasin once again paced the squad with a 13.450 as Coblenz registered a mark of 13.350. Heine and Shapiro each posted scores of 13.000 while Caldwell rounded out the group with a 12.450. As a team, MIT compiled a mark of 53.100.

Rasin was the Engineers' final ranked performer as he placed third in the pommel horse with a score of 14.000. MIT notched a team mark of 52.750, just one-tenth of a point behind second-place Springfield. Coblenz contributed a tally of 13.000, followed by Caldwell (12.950), Jesse Ashcraft-Johnson (12.800), and Shapiro (11.900).
