College Gymnastics Association Announces Men's Academic Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's gymnastics team notched the second-highest grade point average in the country, edging out the College of William and Mary, 3.192-3.186, for the runner-up position. Stanford University extended its record-breaking string of national academic titles as the Cardinal gymnasts combined for a team GPA of 3.567 on a 4.0 scale. The U.S. Naval Academy and University of Illinois-Champaign completed the top five while University of Oklahoma, Temple University, Michigan University, Ohio State University, and Springfield College rounded out the top 10. Individually, Matthew Heine and Zach Eisenstat represented the Engineers on the All-America Scholar-Athlete First Team by posting a GPA of at least 3.50. Earning Second-Team honors with GPAs falling between 3.2 and 3.499 were Tom Caldwell, Boris Rasin, Joshua Coblenz, and Brad Sutton. A total of 101 athletes were recognized by the Collegiate Gymnastics Association. |
