College Gymnastics Association Announces Men's Academic Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's gymnastics team narrowly edged out the University of Michigan, 3.189-3.155, for the fourth-highest grade point average in the country as calculated by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA). Ohio State University was declared the National Academic Team champion with a total of 3.400, ending the four-year reign of Stanford University who finished second (3.360). The U.S. Naval Academy placed third (3.207) to complete the top five, while the College of William and Mary, University of California, Temple University, University of Illinois, and Springfield College rounded out the top 10. Individually, Matthew Heine, Tom Caldwell, and Boris Rasin represented the Engineers on the All-America Scholar-Athlete First Team by posting a GPA of at least 3.50. Earning Second-Team honors with GPAs falling between 3.2 and 3.499 were Brad Sutton and Joshua Coblenz. A total of 119 athletes were recognized by the CGA. |
