College Gymnastics Association Announces Men's Academic Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In the closest three-way finish since the inception of the College Gymnastics Association's (CGA) Academic Team Award in 1991, MIT placed third with a team GPA of 3.407 behind the College of William and Mary (3.421) and Ohio State (3.415). Stanford University placed fourth (3.280) followed by Michigan University (3.253). Springfield College, Temple University, the University of Illinois, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the University of Nebraska rounded out the top 10.

Individually, Matthew Heine was one of five athletes in the country to earn First-Team honors for four straight years. Tom Caldwell, Garrett Hemann, Jake Shapiro, and Jacob Sharpe also represented the Engineers on the All-America Scholar Athlete First Team by posting a GPA of at least 3.50. Earning Second-Team plaudits with GPAs falling between 3.2 and 3.499 were Joshua Coblenz and Boris Rasin. A total of 73 athletes were recognized by the CGA.
