LaBounty Leads MIT Past Endicott, 5-0

Nov. 15, 2007

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior forward Nick LaBounty played a hand in all five MIT goals - scoring three times and adding two assists - while line-mate Ryan Ballentine pitched in with four assists to help guide the Engineers to a 5-0 victory over Endicott College in NorthEast Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA) Conference A East Division action on Wednesday night in the Johnson Ice Rink.

Graduate student Thomas Hopkins was unbeatable between the pipes for Tech once again, stopping 27 shots en route to notching his second straight shutout and lowering his goals-against-average to a sparkling 0.67.

The Engineers (3-0-0; 2-0-0 NECHA) remained perfect with the victory and have now started 3-0-0 in each of the past three seasons. Meanwhile, the Gulls fell to 3-6-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the NECHA.

Sophomore defenseman Kevin Farino scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal on a power-play just under eight minutes into the contest. The tally, assisted by LaBounty and senior Mike Kozlowski, was the Medford, Mass., native's second game-winner of the season.

MIT struck on the man-advantage once again with 8:54 remaining in the first period, this time with Kozlowski and Ballentine feeding LaBounty for his first of the evening.

Sophomore forward Joseph Fahey scored the lone goal of the second period with 2:07 remaining, as Ballentine and LaBounty provided the assists.

LaBounty struck twice more in the final period to complete his hat-trick - once at even-strength, from Ian Rousseau and Ballentine, and once on the power-play, from Ballentine and Kozlowski. The native of Mooselake, Minn., leads the team in scoring with five goals and four assists for nine points.

Goaltender Matt Murray, who stonewalled MIT with a 55-save performance last season, stopped 20 shots for Endicott.

The Engineers will have a quick turnaround in their bid to remain perfect on the young season, as they will host the University of New England on Friday, Nov. 16, at 7:00 p.m. The Gulls will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 17, when they will welcome Bryant University to Hamilton, Mass., at 7:00 p.m.
