MIT Blanks Springfield In Men's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT began NEWMAC play with a 7-0 victory over Springfield College on Tuesday. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

Tech quickly worked through its doubles matches, as it outscored the Pride 24-6. In the top spot, Evan Tindell and Thomas Dohlman defeated Rich Aseltine and Ethan Clime, 8-3. Mark Egan and Eric Beren posted an 8-2 win while Kevin Durand and Eric Makhni finished with a score of 8-1.

In singles action, Egan was down 5-1 in the first set but rebounded to win the set, 7-6 (2), in a tie breaker. He went on to win the next set, 6-1, for the victory in the No. 4 position. Against Justin Freitas, the NEWMAC Player of the Week, Dohlman broke serve at 5-5 in the first set and held on to win 7-5. He then broke serve early in the second set, cruising to a 6-3 margin in the No. 2 slot. Both Beren and Durand swept their opponents in the No. 3 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Tindell recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 position while Makhni won, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot.
