Track and Field Bags Three All-America Honors at NCAA Championships

March 15, 2008

ADDA, Ohio - Despite sending only three qualifiers to the 2008 NCAA Track and Field Indoor Championships, the Engineers made the most out of their contingent, as all three athletes powered to All-America accolades. Sophomore Amy Magnuson capped an impressive season with a second-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles.

Magnuson's near national title served as the highlight for MIT over the weekend. Magnuson ran a modest 8.19 in the prelims, but during finals, the Lawrence, Kan., native, established yet another school record with a phenomenal clip of 8.01.Magnuson's time was faster than the previous four NCAA champions, although Frostburg State's Sumer Rohrs secured her second consecutive national title after setting a new facility record in 7.96.

On the men's side, both sophomore Stephen Morton and senior Omari Stephens earned spots on the awards stand as each copped All-America honors. Morton finished eighth overall in the long jump with a mark 22'9.75" while Stephens finished eighth in the pole vault after a clear of 15'9.75".
