Adam Foley enters his second season at the helm of MIT's water polo program after serving as a player and later coach for traditional Division III powerhouse University of Redlands. During his playing career, Foley racked up several awards while etching his name all over the record books. He graduated ranking seventh all-time in goals (111), fifth in assists (103), third in steals (202) and fifth in ejections drawn (100). In addition, his single season marks in steals (61) and ejections drawn (41) were each good enough for sixth all-time, while his 36 assists in 2003 were the seventh highest total in school history. As a student-athlete, Foley captured several awards - none more prestigious than his Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Player of the Year nod during his senior season. That same year, he was honored as the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Player of the Year, earned Western Water Polo Coaches Association All-Tournament Second Team accolades, and was rewarded with CWPA "Excellent" Academic Honors. The Ashland, Ore. native was a member of three SCIAC championship teams and was named to a trio of All-SCIAC All-Conference teams. After graduating from Redlands in 2004 with a B.A. in history, Foley joined the Bulldogs' coaching staff as a graduate assistant for both men's water polo and swimming. During a year-long coaching tenure with his alma mater, he pursued his M.A. through the School of Education while helping lead the water polo squad to a 24-11 record. |
