Julia Zimmerman Earns ECAC Div. III Gymnast of the Week Honors for Second Time This Season
March 8, 2007
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Sophomore gymnast Julia Zimmerman has been honored as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Gymnast of the Week for the second time in three weeks, it was announced on Thursday. The Chicago, Ill., native earned the accolades based on her performance in last weekend's home tri-meet against West Chester University and SUNY-Brockport, in which the second-year sensation broke her own Institute record in the all-around competition with a stunning score of 38.250. Zimmerman's point-total was high enough to top the previous MIT mark of 38.175, which she had set herself a mere three weeks prior. The score was also good enough to propel her past two-time Div. III National Champion Sarah Bulka (38.150) of Brockport for the second time this season. A personal-best 9.625 on the uneven bars - good enough for the second-best score in school history - paced Zimmerman to the record-breaking performance. She also put forth strong scores on vault (9.600), beam (9.450) and floor exercise (9.575). Zimmerman previously copped ECAC Gymnast of the Week honors on February 15. |
