Women's Ice Hockey Struggles During Weekend Road Swing

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a tough weekend road trip that featured two of the top three teams in the ECAC East, MIT fell to the College of the Holy Cross and Manhattanville College by margins of 7-0 and 6-0, respectively. The Engineers' ledger lowered to 0-15-1 on the year and 0-14-1 in conference play after meeting with the third and second ranked squads in the ECAC East. Against Holy Cross, the hosts got on the board after 17 seconds elapsed. The Crusaders extended their lead at the 7:24 mark and then found the back of the net 50 seconds later for the final goal of the period. In the second stanza, Holy Cross recorded a trio of short-handed goals during a span of 3:12 that increased the score to 6-0. The Crusaders capped the scoring midway through the third period as Rachel Bowens-Rubin collected 41 saves for MIT. The next day, Manhattanville tallied four unanswered goals over the course of seven minutes in the first period. Following a scoreless second frame, the Valiants added to their advantage in the sixth and 18th minutes. Bowens-Rubin closed the weekend with 37 saves, which raised her season total to 399. |
