Salve Regina Slides Past MIT, 4-0
Feb. 24, 2008
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A trio of third-period goals helped secure Salve Regina University's 4-0 win over MIT in an ECAC East game on Saturday night. Rachel Bowens-Rubin stopped 45 shots for the Engineers (1-16-2, 1-15-2 ECAC East). Following a scoreless first period in which the Seahawks recorded a 14-11 edge in shots, Gabrielle Gardner broke through when she connected on a pass by Sarah Small at the 8:41 mark of the second stanza. The slim margin would hold for the remainder of the frame before the pivotal final period. Gardner doubled Salve Regina's advantage with a power-play strike that was set up by Aimee Provencher and Molly Golden after 45 seconds elapsed. Exactly four minutes later, Caitlin Campbell found the back of the net as Provencher and Gardner earned the assists. The Seahawks capped the scoring when Campbell found Jillian Donnelly after another four minutes expired. In net, Lauren Barella collected 21 saves for Salve Regina. |
