MIT Falls at Salve Regina, 4-1

Courtesy of Salve Regina Sports Information MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Sophomore Sarah Small recorded a goal and an assist to lead Salve Regina University to a 4-1 win over MIT in ECAC Women's Ice Hockey action Saturday evening at St. George's Rink. Sophomore Kendra Andrie dished out a pair of assists for the Seahawks, who improved to 5-2 (2-2 ECAC) on the season. The loss drops the Engineers to 1-2 (1-2 ECAC). The two teams skated to a scoreless tie through the first 22:28 of play before Ellis' second goal of the season at 2:28 gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes later, sophomore Gabrielle Gardner netted her fifth goal of the season at 6:26 to push the lead to 2-0. Andrie picked up the lone assist of the goal, her first helper of the season. Senior Caitlin Campbell netted her team-high sixth goal of the season at 8:15 of the second period to give the Seahawks a 3-0 lead. Andrie and Ellis picked up assists on the power-play marker. MIT got on the board just past the midway point of the second period when freshman Kameron Klauber converted a feed from classmate Clarion Hess to cut the deficit to 3-1. Salve Regina sophomore Sarah Small's second goal of the season on the power play at 6:44 of the third period capped the scoring at 4-1. Sophomore Lauren Barella made 15 saves to improve to 3-0 on the season for Salve Regina. Sophomore Rachel Bowens-Rubin made 33 saves for the Engineers, who were outshot 37-16 on the evening. The Seahawks return to action on Sunday when they host St. Michael's at 3 p.m. The Engineers will play at Manhattanville on Sunday at 3 p.m. |
