MIT Hands Babson First Defeat, 9-0

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Visiting MIT dealt the Babson College women's tennis team its first loss of the season on Tuesday afternoon, as the Engineers overpowered the Beavers, 9-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at the Hartwell Courts. With the loss, Babson dropped to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while MIT remained unbeaten at 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC. The No. 3 doubles team of Yi Wang and Melissa Diskin put MIT on the board with an 8-2 victory while Leslie Hansen and Mariah Hoover overpowered their foes, 8-1, in the top spot. Anisa McCree and Liz Denys completed the doubles sweep with a hard-fought 8-6 decision. Straight-set wins by Hansen (6-2, 6-0) and Denys (6-0, 6-3) clinched the match for the Engineers. Diskin registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Liz Sheerin in the No. 5 singles slot while McCree defeated Lindsey Ford, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 6 position. Hoover posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory as Wang closed the day with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 win. In exhibition play, Karina Pikhart and Jen Rees collaborated for an 8-2 doubles victory. Kerry Weinberg defeated Caroline Hobert, 8-2, while Sheena Bhalla fell to Nadja Adilovic, 6-3, 6-0. MIT vs. Babson College Doubles Singles |
