Sophomore Receives First Solo Award of the Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A week after earning Doubles Team of the Week accolades, Leslie Hansen was named the NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week. She posted a 5-1 ledger as she picked up a conference win and advanced to the semifinals of the ITA New England Championship.

Last Tuesday, Hansen defeated Babson's Courtney Farrell, 6-2, 6-0, to remain perfect in NEWMAC play through three matches. In the ITA Tournament, seeded No. 3, she opened the competition with a 6-2, 7-6 (6) win over Shivani Saxena (Wellesley), the eventual consolation singles champion. Hansen then defeated Carlissa King (Amherst), 6-2, 6-4, Nicole Pontee (Vassar), 6-4, 6-1, and Meghan McCooey (Tufts), 4-6, 6-0, 5-4 (ret). She fell to No. 2 Cary Gibson (Williams), 6-1, 6-3, who went on to capture the title.
