Women's Track Captures Cup

WORCESTER, Mass. - The women's track team traveled to WPI on Saturday to compete in the annual tri-meet Engineer's Cup. MIT overcame the poor spring conditions and won the competition with a total score of 155, while Rensselaer Polytechnic (143) and host WPI (65) followed behind.

MIT athletes put on quite a show that featured several individual event winners. Senior Betsy Eames led the way with a personal best time of 19:11.82 in the 5000, a significant improvement over her previous top mark. In the 1500, junior Hana Adaniya finished in 5:03.70 for the victory. Sophomore Leanna Veldhuis was the winner of the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.39), and Alisha Schor was the victor in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:56.47).

In the pole vault, the Engineers nabbed the top three spots, including Emily Hwang's first place mark (9-09.00). Other event winners were junior Chi-Fong Wang in the javelin (106-10) and sophomore Karen Davie in the triple jump (32-06.25).

The Engineers next compete in Lewiston, Maine on Saturday, April 15 against four Maine colleges. The quad meet will begin at 12:00 p.m.
